Why are we subsidizing the profits going to the shareholders? The profits from the company generated from this investment will go to people getting rich over owning our resources and production. If the taxpayer is funding this endeavour, the taxpayer should be rewarded with the profits.

This has been evident for anyone who has seen our collapsing healthcare. Funding is desperately needed for more staff and more resources, but 'starving the beast' is the main game plan of the conservative party. Making it so that the state's services are defunded to the point it's unable to operate so that they can manufacture consent for a private system that will 'fix' the problems they caused.
And people are falling for this, we're seeing more and more people saying they're voting conservative to 'fix' our healthcare despite them being the ones destroying it.

Imagine if instead of spending our tax money to ensure the bottom line of a private company, it was the government itself that owned the business. Then instead of the profits and our taxes going to a multi-billion euro company in France like Voyago, we could use those profits to pay off the national debt and fund other government projects that need funding.
Our taxes shouldn't go to CEOs, it should be used to benefit our citizens, and both the liberals and conservative parties will not even consider this option. In fact, they try to undo the companies that the government already own and benefit us to add more middlemen (HydroOne, LCBO, Healthcare, etc.)

I hate to break the news to you, but this is all conservatives too. This is the neoliberal ideology that dominates both the Liberals and Conservatives parties : Austerity and Privatization all the way down.

What's worrying to me is that most of the programs to combat distracted driving from cell phones are targeted to Teens/Young adults. I've seen way too many people from their 30s to their 60s be much more distracted by their phone while driving thinking they can get away with it do to their age.
We need to make sure information on distracted driving is broad enough to cover all cases and not just reduced to stereotypes.

Can we poll "Should we criminalize recreational alcohol and tobacco?"?
It seems like many older folk on this site want to ban drugs unless it's their drug of choice and I'd like to see some data on that.

Who would have thought that privatizing the healthcare system will only lead to middle men profiting off our tax dollars only to get worse care for that dollar? Oh wait, everyone who isn't a conservative grifter or those duped by them.
The number one cause of bankruptcy in the US for the average working class guy is medical debt. And we look to that and say "More like that please"? Pathetic.

Because this is an internet poll on a local newspaper website. It isn't representative of the electoral body as a whole. All this poll shows is "People who vote in Village Media polls are more likely to vote conservative in a provincial election" not "Everybody is more likely to vote conservative in provincial elections."

Keeping alcohol legal isn't the answer. All it does is open the door for more poisonings and people thinking it's ok to be a drunk unproductive member of society. Legalizing Alcohol has made generations of violent, lazy drunks.
Do you have an issue with this statement, @J92? If you do, maybe rethink your beliefs.

The contracts need to be large enough to pay for materials and labour, and to make sure the company's owner profits as well. As well as any corner cutting in terms of that material and labour also goes directly to profits. They're incentivized to do the bare minimum and pocket the rest. As long as we use private businesses instead of government owned companies, we will always have to use our taxes to line some rich guy's pockets to get anything done.
