This week, instead of simply writing about my trip, I wanted to show it. I’ve put together a video that captures the essence of Uganda—the landscapes, the wildlife, and the people—because some places are too vivid, too moving, and too unexpected to be confined to words alone.
When I first arrived in Uganda, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I’ve travelled to over 80 countries, and I thought I’d seen it all. But Uganda surprised me. From the moment I touched down, I felt a sense of safety and welcome that instantly set it apart. In fact, despite what you might read in certain travel advisories, I found Uganda to be one of the safest countries I’ve ever visited in Africa.
Of course, the wildlife was unforgettable. We often talk about the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo—but in Uganda, you can witness the so-called Big Seven. Add to that list the majestic mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the playful, intelligent chimpanzees of Kibale, and you’ve got a wildlife experience that rivals anywhere on Earth.
But Uganda’s magic isn’t just in its national parks. It’s in the rolling hills of the countryside, the crater lakes that shimmer like mirrors, and the vibrant markets filled with colour, music, and soul. It’s in the genuine hospitality of its people and the sense of pride they take in their country. It’s lush, green, unspoiled—and still under the radar for many travellers.
During my time in Uganda, I had the honour of being a speaker at the Pearl of Africa Travel Expo, an incredible event that brought together dignitaries, tourism professionals, and high-level government officials. Knowing the significance of the occasion, I wanted to wear something special—something that honoured the culture and spirit of the Ugandan people. I received countless local recommendations and eventually ventured into the heart of Kampala to find a striking African fabric. A talented local woman made me a stunning dress that same afternoon. Not only did I feel beautiful and proud wearing it, but the entire experience spoke directly to something I care deeply about: responsible tourism. Supporting local artisans and celebrating the heritage of the country I’m visiting is something I always try to do—and this felt like a perfect example of that philosophy in action.
I’ll be back. Uganda has so much to offer. Even if gorilla trekking isn’t on your personal bucket list, there’s a world of beauty, culture, and warmth here waiting to be explored. This country has something for everyone—and now that I’ve seen it for myself, I’ll be recommending it every chance I get.
If reading this has sparked your curiosity, you’re not alone. I’m already planning to return—and this time, I’m inviting a small group of like-minded travellers to join me. Next May, I’ll be leading a curated experience through Uganda that includes some of the highlights I’ve mentioned here: wildlife encounters, cultural immersion, responsible travel, and of course, moments that will stay with you long after the trip ends. If you’d like to be considered for this special group, send me a message and I’ll be happy to add you to the list. More details coming soon and the trip is not over so follow along on my Instagram to see more of this stunning country.
