ICYMI: These 5 shipping container homes for rent will transform your summer vacation

Ever wonder what it's like to live in a shipping container? Perhaps give one of these Ontario-based listings a try!

Most homeowners would admit they’d love to have more space. In reality, we need very little room for necessities, hence the recent surge in popularity of shipping container and modular homes.

Today, some are looking to do more with less, and many shipping container listings on Airbnb emphasize the “less is more” approach with remote escapes in these minimalist dwellings.

With nature right at your doorstep, container homes are a unique way to get out and explore the outdoors, with at least some comforts of home. If you’ve always thought about staying in a shipping container, perhaps give one of these Ontario-based listings a try.

Tiny cottage Algonquin forest

Venture up to the Haliburton Highlands area of Ontario for the perfect mix of indoors and outdoors. Right near the south gate of Algonquin Park, this 200 square foot tiny home offers a full-sized kitchen and one bedroom with a queen-sized bed. For extra guests, the dinette turns into a fold-down bed.

During the winter months, plumbing in this listing is turned off, but jugs of water are provided for drinking and cleaning dishes. The toilet is still operational through the winter since it’s a composting toilet.

Shipping container getaway in small country town

Near Berkley, Ontario, just southwest of Owen Sound, you’ll find this quaint little shipping container stay. It’s a 20-foot container converted into a living space for two, with a double bed, Wi-Fi, kitchenette, firepit and full working bathroom.

Guests can explore nearby trails, rivers, waterfalls, and even take the canoe for a ride during the summer months. It’s a small, secluded stay if ever there was one.

The Acres at High Shore - South Sweet

One listing in Prince Edward County has combined four shipping containers into one for a unique spin on your typical bed-and-breakfast. Three of the containers are separate rooms, while the fourth is a common area which serves breakfast daily.

Each container includes amenities like a queen bed, Wi-Fi, smart TV, bathroom facilities and a back balcony. An outdoor common sitting area with firepit is the perfect way to spend the evening starting up at the stars.

Farlain Container Cottage

Although this listing resides in Tiny, Ontario, don’t let the name fool you. This getaway built from three shipping containers and looks anything but quaint and it’s really more of a shipping container cottage.

Because of its unique architecture, this unique modular home looks like it was taken out of a modern magazine. There are three sleeping areas in total and can accommodate up to six guests. There’s even a washer and dryer, private hot tub, and Wi-Fi.

Tiny House in the Woods

Last on the list is this shipping container home on Miller Lake in Northern Bruce Peninsula. This area of Ontario has some of the most beautiful clear blue waters in the province, and it’s close to tourist favourites like Tobermory and Bruce Peninsula National Park.

It’s off the grid living at its finest as the home is run through solar power. This 25-foot shipping container home includes a Solo Stove firepit, queen bed, dining area, Wi-Fi, outdoor BBQ and more.
