Cybersecurity expert Sai Huda, best-selling author and founder of online security firm CyberCatch, has issued a warning about the increasing threat of cyberattacks on individuals and businesses.
Hackers appear as busy as ever these days, breaching the computer networks of some prominent organizations: Scouts Canada, the LCBO — even SickKids Hospital.
In a recent Inside the Village interview, Huda stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant increase in the number of people working from home, which has created new opportunities for hackers to target individuals and businesses.
He also noted that many companies have been forced to quickly shift to remote work, leaving them vulnerable to cyber-attacks due to lack of proper security measures in place.
Huda urged individuals and businesses to take proactive steps to protect themselves, such as using:
- Strong, unique passwords
- Password managers
- Multifactor authentication
- Unique one-time pass codes
- Multifactor authentication applications such as Google and Microsoft's free options
He also recommended the use of reputable cybersecurity software and services to help detect and prevent cyber-attacks.
"The fact is, cyber-attacks are becoming more sophisticated and more frequent," Huda said. "It's important for everyone to be aware of the risks and take action to protect themselves."
