The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has expanded its recall of salad kits following concerns of potential listeria contamination, originating from a recall initiated last week.

Newly added to the list of recalled products are Southwest salad kits produced by Dole and President's Choice, alongside Dole's Chop!Chop Avocado Ranch salad kit. These products, distributed nationally, are being recalled from the market due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall stems from an ongoing investigation into a U.S. outbreak of Listeria infections linked to dairy products manufactured by Rizo Lopez Foods.

As of now, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products in Canada.

In light of this development, consumers are advised to take the following precautions:

  1. Healthcare Provider Contact: If you suspect illness due to consumption of a recalled product, seek medical attention promptly.
  2. Check for Recalled Products: Verify if you have any of the recalled items in your possession.
  3. Cease Consumption: Refrain from consuming, serving, using, selling, or distributing the recalled products.
  4. Disposal or Return: Dispose of or return the recalled items to the place of purchase.

Listeria monocytogenes contamination may not look or smell spoiled but can still pose health risks. Symptoms of listeriosis include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable. In pregnant women, the infection can lead to complications such as premature delivery, neonatal infection, or stillbirth. In severe cases, listeriosis can be fatal.

As authorities continue to investigate and monitor the situation, consumers are urged to remain vigilant and heed the recall advisory to safeguard their health and well-being.
